Serra Burmin, a Director of The Fitness Playground gyms, has discovered the perfect storage solution for her gyms which are located in Sydney’s Surry Hills, Marrickville and Newtown. Working with the Davell team, she has achieved results that are visually stunning, functional and very appealing to her large, diverse and growing membership base.
When Serra was looking to update her Surry Hills gym, an online search led her to the Davell website, where she was able to research a wide range of Australian designed and manufactured lockers available with digital locking systems. Not only did she want quality lockers, Serra also required that they fit in with the design of the gym in terms of material, colour and functionality.
Having previously relied on lockers made of melamine, which did not stand up to the rigours of gym use, Serra knew that she wanted sturdy steel lockers. As she explained, “The old lockers were made out of kitchen cupboard material and they were just not durable enough”.
The Design
Fitness Playground gyms are designed and laid out to create an atmosphere that reflects their mission, which is to “change the gym environment and experience”. The gyms have industrial beams, exposed brick and neon lighting. So, when working with Davell, Serra was keen to achieve a design that “looked industrial but was still modern to fit in with the design of the gym”.
In deciding on the perfect product, Serra consulted with the Davell team, choosing the Five Tier Contemporary Locker manufactured from heavy gauge steel with dimensions of 1980mmH x 381mmW x 550mmD and powder coated in Dulux Aztec Silver Gloss.
The Locking System
One issue that Serra was keen to address related to people using padlocks to secure their lockers, then forgetting their gear, leaving staff to cut off the padlocks so that they could reuse the lockers for other members.
To address this problem, the new lockers incorporate a keyless combination digital lock.
This solid zinc alloy body lock comes with a ten-digit keypad, battery indicator, master code and also includes a master key override. Customers can choose from 10,000 combinations and this locking system also comes with an auto unlock mode.
“The good thing about the new locks is that our members get them for a certain period of time and get access when required. Members find them very user-friendly and like using them.”
