Davell has been writing about the developing issue of mobile phone bans in schools for some months. Further details of the Victorian Government’s mobile phone policy were recently published, highlighting, “From Term 1 2020, students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours.”
The ministerial policy details the role of school lockers and puts the onus on schools to provide them. The Hon. James Merlino MP, Minister for Education, notes “Where students bring a mobile phone to school, the school must provide secure storage”, and that this storage includes “student lockers that are lockable”.
The Victorian Government has also indicated that schools should be able to access $12.4 million of funding to purchase or upgrade lockers where students can store their mobile phones.
As manufacturers of Australian-made school lockers, Davell is pleased to be at the forefront of storage solutions that are within the reach of all schools.

Colours
Making an image statement with your lockers will brighten the school environment, so study Davell’s extensive colour chart for school locker colour options and read about Australian schools that are displaying their house colours.
Clear doors are a popular choice for schools, and the Davell ‘Clearview’ option features doors made from ‘shatter-resistant’ clear acrylic.
Lock it in
Locking options include key-operated, provision for a padlock or mechanical dial combination lock.
Special functions
An additional solution is the Mobile Phone Charging Locker offered by Davell. Each locker compartment can charge multiple mobile phones, simultaneously. A single two-metre 10amp power lead provides power to either 8, 16 or 24 charging compartments.
Davell also has a range of laptop-sized charging lockers. The Laptop & Device Charging Lockers come in banks of ten compartments, each with their own charging outlets.
Fund your school locker rollout
The Victorian government is providing funding to support Victorian state primary and secondary school students to switch off and securely store phones during school hours.
According to the government press release “Schools will be able to apply for funding to purchase or upgrade lockers.”
In addition to the $12.4 million funding, Victorian school communities will also have “access to detailed advice and resources”.
